Las Vegas pest control

We are Nevada's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Las Vegas raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Las Vegas pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Las Vegas Raccoon Control Tip: Do raccoons climb fences?
A raccoon is an excellent climber, and scaling a fence is not a difficult task for it. They climb trees to search for fruits and nuts and use the same skill to climb a fence. They make use of their claws and paws to hold onto the surfaces of the wall and climb it. However, they find it difficult to climb a fence or wall that has a very smooth surface and is slippery.

How does a raccoon climb?
Raccoons are known for climbing; they can climb trees, houses, fences, and other high vertical structures as long as it has a rough surface. The body structure of a raccoon supports it to climb up an 8-foot-tall fence. Its paws and claws are strong and can hold firmly to any rough surface. It also has a small pointed body that enhances an upward acceleration in a fast manner. It is a quick animal and light in movement. It is also very alert of threats or dangers and is assertive.

Oftentimes using a fence to fend off raccoons may seem futile as they can climb up it. The smaller raccoons can climb up to about 4 to 5 feet, and the adults can climb up 8 feet or more. They can climb concrete and wooden fences and find it difficult to climb up metallic and glass fences due to their slippery surface.

Fending off raccoons from your yard
Raccoons are known to be nocturnal animals, but oftentimes they are mostly seen during the day in cities and around homes in search of food. They can thrive in any type of environment, either in the wild forest or in urban settlements. They are very adaptable and can survive in any type of weather condition. They like to live around humans and may infest a place if they seem to be getting enough food from there. They can be dangerous to one's health, especially when they bite, and should be warded off to prevent any harm to pets and humans. Using a fence as a preventive measure to ward off raccoons from encroaching into your vicinity is quite alright but definitely not the best method. Raccoons are also known to be good diggers. They can create holes underneath the fence and pass through into your property. They can also trace weak areas in the fence and tear them to make holes where they can fit through.

Build electric fence
Another way of controlling raccoons is by placing electric wires over the fence. This will serve as a measure to fend them off. Raccoons are smart animals and won't return if they get electrocuted by the electric current from the wires. Although this can cause injury to the raccoons or possibly death if the voltage is high, it is a very effective method.

Make sure trees are far away from the fence
Don't build fences close to trees. They could be used as a means to jump over the fence. If there are trees close to the fence, they should be properly trimmed, and branches that are close to the fence should be cut off. Cover holes in fences properly and, if possible, cement them. You can also make sure that the fence has a smooth surface. Building a fence with stones or wood won't be a threat to the raccoons as they can use their claws to grip those edges and climb over easily.

Keep a tidy environment
Raccoons have a great sense of smell and can easily detect food in the yard. Cleaning your property is a good way to keep raccoons away. Make sure food items are not littered around, get rid of waste properly and make sure your garbage is tightly sealed and covered. Old wooden barns, steads, and places that can create a home for raccoons should be taken out. Bushes should be properly cleaned and pesticides should be used to keep them out.

Use traps to catch raccoons
A raccoon, like few other mammals, can turn around 180 degrees face down and climb down from the top of a surface. This tells you that they have an amazing climbing ability and shouldn't be taken lightly or carelessly. One of the best ways to prevent the infestation of raccoons in the yard is by using a trap system. Put bait into the trap, usually a food item, and cover it up in disguise. You can also call a professional for help using traps and constructing a fence that a raccoon cannot climb.
